Monday 19 June 2017

It’s Monday. I don’t really like Mondays because they signal the end of the weekend and you are at the furthest point from the upcoming weekend.
Anyway, not much happened yesterday from an Arsenal perspective. There were some stories from Joel Campbell’s agent expressing his belief that Campbell’s experience in numerous countries, World Cup QF’s and the Champions League means he will be an attractive option for many clubs.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked Joel when he was with us. He never gave less than 100% whenever he was played and I felt he was beginning to make a telling contribution to the team (think Swansea away) before he was again dropped and subsequently shipped out the following summer, again.
However, his most recent loan spell at Sporting has been far from fruitful to say the least and it’s something his agent has to consider, rather than focusing on all of the experience he has.
Campbell is one of a few players I expect to leave the club for the last time but I will discuss that at a later date. Tell me, do you think we should sell him or can he do a Victor Moses and be brought in from the cold and nail down the left wing back spot ahead of Nacho, Saed & The Ox?
Besides that there have been some rumours about or pursuit of Alvaro Morata (we’re chasing him too apparently). Man United are supposed to have agreed a £350,000 a week, 5 year deal which would seemingly end our interest as we can’t offer a proven goalscorer (Alexis) that salary so why would we offer it to a young and largely unproven striker? Would you welcome Alvaro at Arsenal with a wage like that and a transfer fee that will no doubt be in the region of £60m+?
One such piece of news that might mean we have to drastically thrash out a new contract for Alexis is the Speculation that Takuma Asano is due to be denied a work permit for the upcoming season.
As we were happy to see Alexis leave or run down his contract with the expectation of Asano stepping up this news means we will need to re-think our master plan.
To confirm, I have nothing against Asano and understand he had a fairly good loan spell in Germany without being spectacular. Hopefully he can secure a further loan early in the summer and can push on in the upcoming season. Where do you think Asano should go on loan for the upcoming season, Germany again or somewhere else on the continent?
That’s all from me this morning, have a great day and I’ll catch you in the comments.
